But, it’s not all rosy as despite invading the male dominated sector, they face many other challenges. The situation is even worse for them as they try to cross borders to conquer the business world.

It is at the backdrop of these challenges that organizations and stakeholders in the country have been urged to promote economical growth of women entrepreneurs, and reduce constrains they face when they embark on cross border trade, as it will be of greater influence to the society at large.

The advice was given by the Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) Chairperson, Ms Fatma Riyami. “Women and young girls engaged in cross border trade should consider embarking on women protection initiatives on international trade,” said Ms Riyami during a meeting with various stakeholders and government agencies in Dar es Salaam, recently.

Ms Riyami said TWCC aims at providing trainings on international trade requirements and her organization in collaboration with Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO), at present, is implementing a project known as, “Enhancing Women Entrepreneurs’ Competitiveness and Opportunities to benefit from Regional and International Trade,” with funds from UN women.
